National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East (NILI)

7421606The National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East (NILI)seeks to build a well-informed, broad and active interreligious constituency that urges the Administration and Congress to support active, fair, and firm U.S. leadership for a two-state solution and comprehensive, just, and lasting Arab-Israeli-Palestinian peace. Leaders of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) have been a formative part of NILI since its establishment in 2003, building consensus among Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious leaders and working in a bipartisan manner with policy makers and members of Congress to build public support for peace.  Specifically, NILI builds support for strong U.S. leadership for a two-state solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict that brings security and recognition to Israel and establishes a viable and independent state for the Palestinians—two states living side by side in peace and security—with peace agreements between Israel and all its Arab neighbors. In January 2013, thirty national Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders issued a new statement declaring, “Twilight Has Fallen on Hope for Israeli-Palestinian Peace,” and called for “a bold new initiative for a two-state solution before it’s too late.”  Read that statement here.
