Art Exhibit

ISNA is collaborating with Islamic Arts Society for this year’s Art Exhibit. We will have interactive art classes, art displays and sales, live demonstrations, and live, evolving mural. 

Interactive Art Classes  (click class title to register)

Arabic Calligraphy 101 and Arabic Calligraphy for Beginners These one-hour classes will teach the basics of Islamic Calligraphy through expert guided instruction. Students will learn and practice basic Arabic lettering by completing a series of basic writing exercises. By practicing and exploring the history of Islamic calligraphy students will develop a greater understanding and appreciation for Islamic Art as well as their very own work to take home. Ebru (Turkish Water-Marbling) Workshop This is an educational and interactive workshop for ages 15 and above. The workshop will teach the basic concepts and techniques involved in this Islamic art form of Turkish paper-marbling. At the end of each, one hour class students will be able to make and identify various Ebru patterns and designs. Islamic Geometric Art In addition to calligraphy, geometric designs are an integral part of traditional Islamic Art. This class will be taught by the renowned Islamic geometry expert and artist Fariba Abedin. In this class, students will have the opportunity to create their own vibrant geometric Islamic art piece.

Live Art Demonstrations

Ebru Art Main Lobby, Level I. Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 -12pm, 2pm, 6pm  A live demonstration of centuries-old Turkish art of paper marbling known as EBRU. Experience the magic of colors on water. Live Calligraphy Main Lobby, Level I. Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 – 11am – 2pm & 5pm – 8pm Have your name or a favorite Dua written by our master Calligraphers. Something to keep and cherish for years to come!

Harmony of Qalams Main Lobby, Level I. Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 – 11am, 1pm, 5.30pm and 8pm

A live, evolving mural of Islamic Calligraffiti. Various artists will be contributing towards a homogenous final mural over the days ISNA is held – incorporating a variety of styles into an amalgamation of Islamic Calligraphy and art.
