ISNA Opposes Reissued Executive Order

(Plainfield, IN 3/7/17) On Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump reissued the Executive Order titled Protecting The Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States with revisions such as removing Iraq from the list of countries barred from entering the country and lifting the indefinite suspension of Syrian refugees. ISNA opposes this new Executive Order. It does nothing to protect the United States. Instead, the Executive Order punishes the vulnerable, particularly immigrants and refugees and harms the US economy by denying companies and academic institutions with talented scholars and employees. It also serves to legitimize Islamophobia and xenophobia which has led to violence against Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs in recent days. In a statement, ISNA President Azhar Azeez said: “This Executive Order is divisive and misguided. We encourage our members to call their House and Senate representatives to express their concerns regarding the Executive Order.” The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is the largest and oldest Islamic umbrella organization in North America. Its mission is to foster the development of the Muslim community, interfaith relations, civic engagement, and better understanding of Islam. –END– Faryal M.
