The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) is proud to join our fellow Americans and
celebrate this year’s Black History Month. As we look throughout our nation’s history, there is
much to admire about the rich legacy and achievements of Black Americans. Their contributions
were central to moving our nation forward and forging a better future for us today, and that is
why we are so deeply indebted to them.

Since the founding of our country, Black Americans have fought passionately for the values we
all hold dear. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, were not afforded to so many
who came before us and were it not for the brave efforts of some; our nation may not have
moved in the direction of freedom, equality, and justice for all.

As a Muslim organization, ISNA is proud to celebrate this month and commemorate the great
history and tradition of Black American Muslims, who have played a vital role in public life for
generations. We celebrate them, their history, and all the contributions they continue to make for
the betterment of our society.

Happy Black History Month!
