IFC MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the ISNA Founders Committee (IFC) is to support ISNA by ensuring its financial stability and well being.  IFC achieves this by direct financial contributions, financial contribution through their network, and by providing advice to the ISNA board of directors as well as the development department. IFC helps ISNA’s strategic priorities and creating a sound financial base needed by ISNA to serve the Muslim community and the society at large.  IFC also promotes the role of philanthropy in the Muslim community.  IFC also provides counsel to the President of ISNA on matters of financial stability. 

BRIEF HISTORY

  • In 1988, at the ISNA Annual Convention, a meeting of a group of committed donors was convened by the then President Shaikh Ahmed Zaki Hammad and Secretary General Dr. Iqbal Unus.
  • In 1994, Majlis Ash Shura (ISNA Board) established IDF as the formal fundraising department, with Brother Ahmed Elhattab as its Executive Director.
  • At the ISNA Strategic Planning Retreat in 2003, “Establishing a Sound Financial Base” was named one of ISNA’s priorities.
  • ISNA Founders Committee (IFC) was established as a formal entity to execute this mission along with ISNA staff.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Active or life member of ISNA
  • Agrees with the mission and vision of ISNA and IFC
  • Minimum Annual Donation of $5000 or more
  • Act in a volunteer capacity
  • Attends the annual IFC retreat
  • Executes a “No conflict of Interest” statement
  • Executes a “Confidentiality Agreement”
  • Contributes to “Founders Legacy Fund”

STRUCTURE

  • Chairman – elected for 3-year term with a maximum of two consecutive terms.  Can be eligible for re-election after a break of one term
  • Co-Chairman – term of office as for Chairman
  • Secretary – term of office as for Chairman

He is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Management Group, Inc. Sterling negotiates mergers, acquisitions, and sales of varioussized companies located in different parts of the world. Sterling and its affiliates operate in the United States, Canada, Chile, Egypt, Malaysia, Turkey and Zimbabwe. In addition, Dr. Mirza has more than forty years of experience in stock investments and portfolio management.

He is the author of Five Pillars of Prosperity: Essentials of Faih-Based Wealth Building, published by White Cloud Press 2014.

Dr. Mirza is a founding trustee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Amana Mutual Funds, (Assets $3.3 billion) which is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. 

He also serves on the boards of numerous other organizations, including several for-profit and not-for-profit, as well as academic institutions.

Dr. Mirza is a member of the Board of Advisors for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Board of Advisors, Byrd School of Business, Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia. 

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of George Mason University Foundation and its audit committee.

Dr. Mirza has received numerous awards and much recognition for his work in entrepreneurship and community service, including the 2002 Entrepreneur Award by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (San Jose, California); 2006 and then 2017 Award Recipient – Byrd Distinguished Entrepreneur Speaker Series, Byrd School of Business at Shenandoah University; 2012 Recognition Award for Community Service by the American Muslim Alliance; 2013 Award from the Muslim American Coalition Council and Public Affairs Council and the ISNA Community Service Award 2015. Most notably, Dr. Mirza was featured in an article on faith-based entrepreneurship, published in the 2010 spring edition of the New England Journal of Entrepreneurship.

The Board of Trustees, Shenandoah University recognized Dr. Mirza’s contributions with a “Resolution of Appreciation” – October 2018.

Dr. Mirza holds a MSc from the University of Karachi (1969), a PhD in Physics (1974) and an MA in Teaching Science (1975) from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Dr. Moien Butt obtained his medical degree in 1967 from Dow Medical College (now Dow Medical University), Pakistan. He immigrated to USA in 1975 and trained at Medical College of Pennsylvania to become a board certified Pathologist. After completion of his training, Medical College of Pennsylvania hired him as Associate Professor to teach pathology to undergraduate medical students. In 1981, Dr. Butt joined a multispecialty medical group practice in Ohio where he became vice chairman of the Pathology department of Holzer Medical Center and later he was elected as director of Holzer Clinic, Inc. Dr. Butt retired from medical practice in 1991 and then moved to Houston.

Currently, Dr. Butt is President of BHK Holdings, Inc., and World Real Estate, Inc. a real estate management company. He is past president of Houston Medical Diagnostics, Ltd and Medical Center Imaging, Inc.

At present Dr. Butt is serving as vice-chairman and CEO of Shifa USA, a charitable social service organization that provides medical and dental care to the poor at its 6 clinics in Greater Houston area and operates a Women’s Center that provides temporary housing for victims of family abuse.  Dr. Butt is a member of board of directors of Houston Shifa Services Foundation, Inc. He is also a member of Islamic Society of Greater Houston Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Islamic Society of North America Founders Committee, and Advisory Board of the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston. He is past President of Islamic Society of West Virginia, and Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

Dr. Butt has received Meritorious Service Award from Holzer Clinic, Outstanding Community Service Award from Pakistan American Chamber of Commerce and Community Service Award from Pakistan Association of Greater Houston. He was the Honoree at 2014 Shifa Gala.

 

Dr. Piracha was born in Pakistan. He completed his M.B.B.S from Nishtar  Medical College in Multan, Pakistan.
