About ISNA Mental Health

The United States National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) provides the following overview: “Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It is more than the absence of a mental illness—it’s essential to your overall health and quality of life. Self-care can play a role in maintaining your mental health and help support your treatment and recovery if you have a mental illness.” (https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/caring-for-your-mental-health)

ISNA Mental Health (IMH) aim is to provide tools, advice, training and mentoring, in particular, with a focus on preventive approaches to mental illness. The contents presented here include articles, books, and documents written by psychologists, psychotherapists, and scholars on Islam. The target audience is Muslim community members who are ordinarily involved in mental health issues for themselves, those raising tender age children and teenagers.

“With the right approach, mental health problems of all kinds can be prevented”, states a report by the UK Mental Health Foundation authored by its Director Dr Antonis Kousoulis.
