ISNA’s Response to Jerusalem Designation and Embassy Relocation

(Plainfield, IN 12/6/17) The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) finds the deviation from the United States’ longstanding position on Jerusalem to be concerning. The decision by President Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to relocate the US Embassy was made unilaterally and against the advice and consensus of the international community. In a statement, ISNA President Azhar Azeez said: “The decision is a disruption and threat to efforts of establishing peace in the region. We reiterate the statement by the Patriarchs and Heads of Local Churches in Jerusalem that the decision ‘will yield increased hatred, conflict, violence and suffering in Jerusalem and the Holy Land, moving us farther from the goal of unity and deeper toward destructive division.’ ISNA, along with all American Muslims, remains steadfast in our commitment to peace in the region.” We urge all members of our community to contact their U.S. Senators at 1-888-885-1748 to denounce President Trump’s announcement on Jerusalem as a provocative act that is out of line with the international community’s consensus on the steps required for a peaceful solution.
